Retainer vs Pay-Per-Meeting vs Hybrid Pricing for UK Outbound Agencies (2026)
Author:

A retainer buys a fixed amount of outbound work each month, pay per meeting charges only for meetings, and a hybrid pairs a base fee with a fee per meeting. For UK B2B teams selling into complex markets, a hybrid gives the best balance of effort and accountability, and throxy runs one: a flat monthly fee plus a fee for each qualified meeting you approve, and the meeting has to take place before it is chargeable (throxy).
This guide is published by throxy, which sells outbound on a hybrid model. Agency prices come from each agency’s own site, checked on 5 November 2026.
The three models at a glance
Model | What you pay for | Who carries the risk | Published UK examples |
|---|---|---|---|
Retainer | A fixed monthly fee for a package of work: strategy, data, copy, sending infrastructure and campaign management | Mostly you | Sopro from £3K a month with no minimum contract (Sopro). ORRJO from £3,995 a month plus VAT on 6 or 12 month contracts (ORRJO). Flowd from £5,000 a month, up to £30,000 (Flowd). |
Pay per meeting | Each meeting, booked or held depending on the contract | Mostly the agency | Frontline Sales Consultancy is paid per qualified meeting attended and absorbs no-shows, cancellations and out-of-profile bookings (Frontline Sales Consultancy). |
Hybrid | A base fee plus a fee per qualified meeting | Shared | throxy: flat monthly fee plus a fee per approved meeting that takes place (throxy). Flowd gives the example of a £3,500 monthly base plus a bonus per meeting above a target (Flowd). |
Retainer: when it fits
A retainer suits a team that wants a defined amount of work, custom targeting and strategic input, and has the budget to run a test for a few months. The risk sits with you: you pay the same whether the month brings eight meetings or none. Check three things before you sign:
What the fee includes: data, copywriting, mailboxes and domains, calling, reply handling and reporting.
The minimum term. ORRJO runs 6 or 12 month contracts with a discount for 12 (ORRJO), Sopro has no minimum contract (Sopro), and Flowd recommends 90-day initial terms (Flowd).
What you see each week: activity, replies and meetings, with recordings for calls.
Pay per meeting: when it fits
Pay per meeting suits a team with a tight budget and its own capacity to qualify. The invoice risk moves to the agency, while your team still spends an hour on every meeting that never becomes an opportunity (Leadsify). The contract lives or dies on the definition of a meeting, so get it in writing: booked or held, which titles and company sizes count, and what happens with no-shows.
For a price check, Flowd’s 2026 Cold Outreach Report puts best-in-class cost per meeting at £150 to £250 and average performers at £250 to £500 (Flowd).
Hybrid: when it fits
A hybrid suits complex sales where list building, research and calling take real work before the first meeting, and where you want the agency paid more when meetings happen. Leadsify warns about two failure modes: a base so large the meeting fee changes nothing, and a meeting fee so large that every qualification call becomes an argument (Leadsify).
throxy’s version: the base covers human SDRs, AI-powered infrastructure, lead lists, copy and management. throxy agrees the qualification standard with you before launch. Each meeting arrives as a request, you have 24 hours to accept or reject it, the prospect only gets the invite once you approve, and the meeting has to take place to be chargeable (throxy).
How to compare three proposals
Line up the scope. Check each offer for account research, contact data, writing, localisation, domains and mailboxes, inbox management, phone or LinkedIn follow-up, booking, CRM entry and reporting (Leadsify).
Get the meeting definition in writing, including who approves a meeting and when.
Work out the total cost at a low and a high meeting count for each offer, then add setup fees, tools and your own team’s time.
Check the minimum term, the notice period and what happens to the data and domains when you leave.
Ask each agency for its own show rate and meeting-to-opportunity rate, and for a client you can call.
