How to Reach Decision-Makers in UK Logistics (2026)

To reach decision-makers at UK logistics companies, build your list from public registers, target the person who owns the operational problem, and lead with the phone backed by short, specific email. If you want a partner to run that for you, we recommend throxy: it builds a custom database for every campaign, its specialist SDRs cold call in 10+ languages alongside cold email, and you approve each qualified meeting before it counts toward your bill. This guide is published by throxy. Every outside fact below is linked and was checked on 4 November 2026.
The UK logistics market in numbers
Logistics UK says the sector comprises more than 200,000 businesses, contributes £185 billion to the economy each year and employs 8% of the UK workforce (Logistics UK reports). That is a long list of possible accounts, so the real work is choosing which firms to contact first and finding the right person inside each one.
Who to target
In logistics the person with the budget and the person with the pain are often different people. A supply chain director feels a missed delivery window, a procurement lead owns the carrier relationship and a finance director signs the contract (throxy). Map the account by problem before you write a word.
Operations director or general manager: runs depots, fleets and service levels day to day, and feels operational problems first.
Supply chain director or head of logistics at a shipper: buys freight and warehousing for retailers and manufacturers.
Procurement lead: owns carrier and supplier relationships and runs tenders.
Finance director: signs off the contract once the problem owner wants to move.
Where to find UK logistics companies
The HGV operator register. GOV.UK’s Find lorry or bus operators service lets you search heavy goods vehicle operators by name, address or licence number (GOV.UK). A business needs a goods vehicle operator’s licence for vehicles with a gross plated weight over 3,500kg (GOV.UK), so businesses running lorries above that weight should appear on it, apart from the exemptions GOV.UK lists.
Licence applications. GOV.UK’s Check vehicle operator licence applications service shows HGV applications and decisions (GOV.UK). A new application tells you a business is starting or growing a fleet.
Companies House by SIC code. The Companies House advanced search filters companies by nature of business (Companies House). Useful codes include 49410 Freight transport by road, 52103 Operation of warehousing and storage facilities for land transport activities, 52290 Other transportation support activities and 53202 Unlicensed carriers (SIC list).
Trade bodies. CILT(UK) runs events, policy and regional groups and local networks for its members across transport and logistics (CILT(UK)). If you join, its local network is a direct route to supply chain professionals in your region.
Events. Multimodal had 14,676 attendees in Hall 4 at the NEC Birmingham in 2026 and returns there from 29 June to 1 July 2027, free to attend (Multimodal). IMHX, the UK intralogistics event established in 2001, runs at the NEC Birmingham from 14 to 16 September 2027 (IMHX). Exhibitor and speaker lists give you named companies and people to research.
When logistics buyers reply
Logistics buyers reply when something changes. A company that has opened a new distribution centre needs carrier capacity, a firm that has lost a major account is rethinking its supply chain, and a business expanding into a new region needs freight partners it does not have yet (throxy). Build your list around these moments and contact the problem owner that week.
Choose the channel by buyer
Phone first. Logistics is a phone industry, and a direct call reaches operations buyers who spend the day on the warehouse floor or with carriers (throxy).
Short email to warm the name. Keep the first email under eighty words: one operational pain, one line of proof and one soft ask (throxy).
LinkedIn as a light third touch for buyers who research before they reply.
Stay inside the UK rules
Before live B2B calls, screen numbers against both the Corporate Telephone Preference Service and the Telephone Preference Service, plus your own do-not-call list. Sole traders and some partnerships count as individuals under PECR, so the stricter rules apply to them (ICO). The ICO says this guidance is under review after the Data (Use and Access) Act, so check it before each campaign.
